Here’s an example of how we approach and organize a school trip for four classes (A-B-C-D) from one school:

Educational Goal

As an enhancement of a student’s physical education program, students will be using the indoor gymnastics and ninja facility at South Edmonton Gymnastique and Ninja (SEGN). The focus of the program will be on active living, movement skill development and safety. Students participate in various age appropriate gymnastic and ninja techniques and routines. Qualified staff at SEGN will work with students in small groups and individually to assist them in developing their physical abilities. All coaches have prepared lesson plans designed for each class.

Itinerary

Bring one class ⟶ Mission: Easy

  • Students participate in the morning from 9:30 – 11:30AM, or the afternoon from 12:30 – 2:30PM.
  • In these two hours, the class will move as a group through our three centres for gymnastics, tumbling, and Ninja.
  • A coach will ensure there are water breaks as required.
  • At the end of the session, students hop on the bus, tired and happy, for the bus ride back to school!

Bring two classes ⟶ Mission: No Problem

  • Students participate in the morning from 9:30 – 11:30AM, or in the afternoon
    from 12:30 – 2:30PM (as above).
  • After a warmup, each group will cycle through our three centres for gymnastics, tumbling, and Ninja. Where the 1st group might start with gymnastics, the second will start in the Ninja area, for example.
  • The difference between one class or two classes attending is that we bring in extra coaches and move groups through our three main areas uniquely. Our gym has lots of equipment, so you don’t have to worry about students waiting in line.
  • Coaches will ensure there are water breaks as required.
  • At the end of the session, students cartwheel onto the bus, tired and happy, for the bus ride back to school!

Bring four classes ⟶ Mission: We’ve done it before, it’s a piece of cake!

  • The bus will collect half of the students (two classes or ~50 students) from school around 9:00AM (we assume a half hour bus ride).
  • After a warmup, Classes A and B (whatever grades) participate in the morning from 9:30 – 11:30AM. In these two hours, groups A and B move through the centres of the gym uniquely. We’ll have several coaches on hand to cycle groups through the gym, ensuring all students are introduced to gymnastics and the Ninja equipment. Because we have lots of equipment and space, so you don’t have to worry about a student’s long wait in line.
  • At 11:30, the bus returns classes A and B to school and picks up classes C and D.
  • Classes C and D participate in same program as A and B but in the afternoon from 12:30 – 2:30PM.
  • Coaches will ensure there are water breaks as required.
  • At the end of the session, students do back handsprings onto the bus, tired and happy, for the bus ride back to school!

Detailed description of activities:

Students will arrive at South Edmonton Gymnastique and Ninja to participate in organized gymnastic and ninja lessons run by qualified instructors. All the instructors are trained in first aid and are certified by the National Coaches Certification Program (NCCP). The students cycle through three centres of the gym: the gymnastics centre, the tumbling platform, and the ninja centre. In each section, the instructors will include activities addressing spatial awareness, and a wide variety of locomotor (running, jogging, skipping, hopping, jumping etc.) and non-locomotor (hanging, swinging, landing etc.) movements. The instructors reinforce fair play and cooperative practices (character development). Students will develop an understanding of how similar patterns of behavior exist across a variety of physical activities, and how movement patterns can be customized to enhance the proficiency of movement. Students will understand how patterns can also be transferred across a variety of physical activities to support individual and group success. They will learn how movement patterns lead to skill development.

Please ensure your students are dressed appropriately in comfortable athletic wear and bring indoor shoes. They should also have a water bottle and a small snack.
Costs are $12.50 per participant, exclusive of GST. Parents and guardians must complete an injury waiver for each child.
